1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil.
Abstain means to keep away from or refrain from something. It involves an ongoing commitment, not just a one-time act. Since we continue to struggle with sinful desires and temptations, we need to continually turn away from whatever would lead us into sin.
Every form means every kind of evil, no matter how it presents itself. Evil is contrary to God’s holy and good character. God is good, and He is worthy of all honor and glory. As Christians, we are called to turn away from evil and pursue what is good and pleasing to Him.
As you move through life and encounter temptations, ask yourself, would this action or what I am about to look at reflect the glory of God? Consider whether your choices honor Him or draw you toward sin.
Ask God to give you discernment to recognize evil and an awareness of how it can appear in your life. Ask Him to help you develop a strong aversion to sin so that you desire what is good and turn away from what displeases Him. Do everything for the glory of God. ~ Jeff M Newman
