For We Must All Appear Before the Judgment Seat of Christ

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 So we aspire to please Him, whether we are at home in this body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

In these verses, we learn about the Judgment Seat of Christ, also known as the Bema Seat. This is not a judgment to determine salvation, for those who are in Christ have already been forgiven and declared righteous through faith in Him. Instead, it is a judgment where Christ evaluates the lives and service of believers and rewards them according to their faithfulness.

Our goal in life, as believers, is to please the One who saved us. One day, every Christian will stand before Christ to give an account of how they lived for Him. At the Bema Seat, Christ will evaluate what we have done that has eternal value. He will examine our motives, our faithfulness in using the gifts He has entrusted to us, our obedience to His Word, our love for others, and our perseverance through trials and suffering.

In light of this coming day, make it your ambition to please God. Invest your time, talents, and treasures in what will last for eternity. Live each day with eternity in view, seeking to glorify Christ in all that you do. Let your goal be not merely to arrive in heaven, but to hear your Savior say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). ~ Jeff M Newman
