1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
This verse shows us that there is a direct connection between knowing God and loving others. John the Apostle teaches that a person who continually lives without love does not truly know God, because God’s nature is love. As believers grow in their relationship with God, His love should increasingly be seen in their lives.
This does not mean that Christians love perfectly all the time. Believers still struggle with selfishness, sin, and weakness. Growing in Christlike love is a lifelong process, but love for others is evidence of God working within us through the Holy Spirit.
To grow in love for others, spend time with God every day. Read His Word regularly and ask Him to help you obey Him and love others with the love of Jesus Christ.
God is love, and as you abide in Him, He will transform your heart. Through His Spirit, He will empower you to love others in a way that reflects His character. ~ Jeff M Newman
