Isaiah 53:4 Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities;
Isaiah 53 is one of the clearest passages about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament. It describes a suffering Servant who would bear the sins of others and suffer in the place of His people.
The Messiah would take upon Himself the full weight of our sin. He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. This points forward to the crucifixion, where He bore the penalty that we deserved.
Jesus took our sin upon Himself so that it could be taken away. This is only possible because He is sinless, as 1 John 3:5 says, “in Him there is no sin.”
This is the good news. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, your sin has been fully dealt with. Take a moment today to thank Him for what He has done.~ Jeff M Newman
