He Who Commits Adultery Lacks Judgment

Proverbs 6:32 He who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.

God is giving us a serious warning. He says that the person who commits adultery “destroys himself.” Adultery can damage a marriage, destroy trust, deeply hurt others, and bring painful consequences. By committing adultery, you are rejecting God’s wisdom and choosing to pursue a sinful desire.

Jesus teaches that sexual sin begins in the heart. He says that whoever looks at someone lustfully has already committed adultery in the heart (Matthew 5:27–28). The battle against sexual sin therefore begins with what you allow into your heart and mind.

If this is an area of struggle for you, ask God to transform you. Fill your mind with His Word through reading, studying, memorizing, meditating, and prayer. Guard your thoughts and establish wise boundaries that help you avoid unnecessary temptation. For example, you may choose not to be alone in private with someone to whom you could be attracted to unless that person is your spouse.

Consider having a trusted, mature Christian accountability partner who can pray for you and ask you honest questions. When you do sin, don’t hide from God. Confess it quickly. First John 1:9 tells us that God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us from unrighteousness.

The enemy wants to destroy us, but we are also responsible for the choices we make. Don’t feed sinful desires. Run to Christ, walk by the Spirit, and ask Him for the strength to pursue holiness.
