Leviticus 22:31–33 You are to keep My commandments and practice them. I am the LORD. 32 You must not profane My holy name. I must be acknowledged as holy among the Israelites. I am the LORD who sanctifies you, 33 who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.”
In context, God is speaking to the Israelites. He reminds them that He is the One who sanctifies them, that He brought them out of the land of Egypt, and that He is the LORD. Their obedience was to be a response to God’s work in their lives, not a way to earn His favor.
This points to Jesus Christ, who redeemed us from the slavery of sin by dying on the cross and rising again. When you put your faith in Him, He forgives your sins, sets you apart for God, and begins transforming you to become more and more like Him.
You do not obey Christ in order to earn salvation. You obey because you are already a child of God. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, God gives you the power to obey and grow in holiness. Christ died so that you might be sanctified and live a life that honors Him. Spend time today thanking Him for what He has already done for you and ask Him to continue His work of sanctification in your life. ~ Jeff M Newman
