John 10:14-15 I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me, 15 just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He leads, cares for, and protects His people. He is not distant from them. He knows them personally, and they know Him. This speaks of a real and ongoing relationship, not merely outward association.
Jesus says that the Father knows Him and He knows the Father. This describes a perfect and eternal relationship marked by complete unity, understanding, and love.
The word “know” points to deep, personal, and relational knowledge. Jesus invites His people into a true relationship with Him, one that reflects the closeness and intimacy He shares with the Father, while still recognizing that His relationship with the Father is unique.
He then explains how this relationship is made possible. He lays down His life for the sheep. His death is intentional and necessary. Through His sacrifice, He makes a way for sinners to be brought into relationship with God.
This is the good news. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who knows His people and is known by them, willingly gave His life so that they could be reconciled to God. Meditate on this truth today~ Jeff M Newman
