1 Corinthians 13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.

In context, Paul is teaching us what biblical love looks like. Even though you are a Christian you can still struggle to love people the way God commands. Let’s focus on the part that says love is “not easily angered.”

This does not mean that experiencing anger is always sinful. For example, Jesus demonstrated righteous anger (Mark 3:5). However, Scripture teaches us not to allow anger to control us or cause us to respond in a sinful way. Biblical love helps us respond to others in a way that honors God.

Do you find yourself getting angry quickly when someone says something hurtful, disagrees with you, or treats you unfairly? God wants you to pause, exercise self-control, and respond with patience and grace.

This can be especially difficult when your anger feels justified. When this happens, think about Christ. He was mocked, falsely accused, beaten, and crucified, yet He did not retaliate. Instead, He entrusted Himself to the Father (1 Peter 2:23).

The next time you become angry, bring your anger to Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you slow down, examine your heart, forgive the person who hurt you, and respond in a way that reflects Christ.

God will help you grow in your struggle with anger. Bring your anger to Him today and allow the Holy Spirit to transform you to become more like Christ. ~ Jeff M Newman
