None of Them Belonged to Us

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But their departure made it clear that none of them belonged to us.
In this verse, John is speaking about false teachers, antichrists, and deceivers who were once associated with the Christian community but later departed from the truth of Christ. Their departure revealed that they were never truly part of God’s family spiritually.
This passage is not speaking about someone simply changing congregations or attending a different church. John is referring to people who outwardly associated with believers for a time, but ultimately rejected Christ and abandoned the truth of the gospel.
Believers will still face temptation, spiritual battles, and seasons of weakness. Christians are not perfect. However, genuine believers continue coming back to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith because the Holy Spirit is at work within them.
Continue abiding in Christ. Stay rooted deeply in God’s Word. Fellowship with believers who truly love and follow Jesus. God is faithful to help you remain close to Him. He loves you, is with you, and will continue strengthening you as you walk with Him. ~ Jeff M Newman
