Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Life is filled with struggles. As Christians, we should not be surprised when we face temptation, opposition and spiritual attacks. There is a real spiritual battle involving real spiritual forces of evil.
This verse shows us that our ultimate struggle is not against human beings, but against spiritual forces that are opposed to God and His people. Paul describes these forces as rulers, authorities, powers of this darkness and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
This does not mean that every problem or conflict with another person is directly influenced by a demon. We may also suffer because of our own sinful choices, and other people are responsible for their own sinful choices. We should not blame every difficulty on demonic activity.
The key is that we cannot fight this spiritual battle in our own strength. Paul tells us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might and to put on the whole armor of God. God gives us everything we need to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
Fill your life with the truth of Jesus Christ. Spend time in God’s Word, worship Him, pray, study the Bible and fellowship with other believers. God’s Word is the sword of the Spirit, and we are called to pray in the Spirit and remain watchful.
Remember that the Holy Spirit lives in you. You do not have to face temptation and spiritual struggles alone. Depend on God and His strength as you stand firm in the truth of His Word.
When you face a struggle with another person, remember that person is not your ultimate enemy. Do not allow anger, bitterness or hatred to control you. Recognize that there is a spiritual battle taking place and respond in a way that honors Christ.
The battle is real, but you do not have to fight it in your own strength. Stand firm in Christ, put on the armor of God, depend on His power and allow His truth to guide the way you live. Look to Christ and depend on Him. ~ Jeff M Newman
