2 Timothy 2:22 Flee from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
This verse gives us clear and practical guidance for pursuing purity. First, we are commanded to flee from youthful passions. These include illicit and sinful desires, but they also encompass impulsiveness, pride, selfish ambition, and other undisciplined cravings that can lead us away from Christ.
At the same time, we are called to pursue what is right, righteousness, faith, love, and peace. We are to love others with Christ’s love, to live at peace in our relationship with God and with others, and to spend time in fellowship with those who are sincerely seeking the Lord with pure hearts.
Purity is not only about turning away from sin, it is also about actively pursuing Christlike character. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit, to give you discernment to recognize the youthful passions in your own life, and to give you the power to flee from them and faithfully pursue Him. ~ Jeff M Newman
