Think on These Things

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.

As Christians, we have a choice in what we allow our minds to dwell on. Paul encourages us to focus on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. What we continually give our attention to can shape our thoughts, attitudes and actions.

In this world, it is easy to focus on things that produce fear, anger, negativity or discontentment. When you find yourself dwelling on these things, turn your attention to the Lord. Look to Him. He is true, righteous, pure and worthy of our praise.

You will face problems and struggles in life. This does not mean we ignore them. Instead, bring them to Jesus rather than allowing the world to determine how you respond. He is trustworthy and gives us the wisdom and strength to walk through difficult circumstances.

Spend time in God’s Word. Pray about what is happening in your life. Meditate on Scripture that speaks to the challenges you are facing. When your mind begins to dwell on fear or negativity, intentionally turn your thoughts back to Christ and His truth.

As you abide in Christ, He transforms you from the inside out (2 Corinthians 3:18). Be intentional about what you allow your mind to dwell on. Fix your thoughts on Christ and His truth, and allow the Holy Spirit to transform the way you think and live. ~ Jeff M Newman
