Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. 10 For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up! 11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
In these verses, Solomon shares a powerful truth: two are better than one. Life can become empty and lonely when lived in isolation. We need others who can help us when we fall, strengthen us when we struggle, and encourage us along the way. Solomon gives several practical examples of the strength and benefits that come from companionship.
As Christians, we are part of God’s family. We are called to love our brothers and sisters in Christ, encourage one another, fellowship together, and help one another grow. Hebrews 10:24–25 tells us to stir one another toward love and good works and to encourage one another.
Don’t walk through life alone. Invest in godly friendships and Christian community. Get involved in a small group, fellowship with other believers, and serve in ministry. Ask God to help you avoid isolation and give you opportunities to encourage and strengthen others.
God often uses other believers as a means of encouragement, correction, strength and spiritual growth. Be willing to receive help when you need it, and be ready to help someone else when they fall.
