2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Paul speaking about arguments, ideas and proud thoughts that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. He explains that these are strongholds that must be demolished. We are called to bring these thoughts and ideas under the authority of Christ.
We should compare what we think and believe against the truth of God’s Word. Ask yourself, “Is this thought consistent with what God has said?”
This also applies to the thoughts and desires that enter your own mind. You may have a revengeful, anxious, bitter or lustful thought. Do not automatically accept it or allow it to control you. Take that thought captive and bring it into obedience to Christ.
Bring your mind and your life under the Lordship of Jesus. Ask Him to protect you from thoughts and desires that would lead you away from Him and give you strength to reject what is contrary to His Word.
The goal is not to never have a sinful or tempting thought. The goal is to recognize it, reject what is contrary to God’s Word and bring your thinking under the authority of Jesus Christ.
By God’s power, we can demolish arguments and ideas that oppose Him and bring our thoughts into obedience to Christ. ~ Jeff M Newman
