Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:23-24)
Jesus is claiming to be the "I am." This means that He is claiming to be God. He is not of this world.
Jesus came from above to this earth in order to pay the penalty for our sins. When you break the eternal law, you have to pay an eternal punishment. The penalty can only be paid for by the eternal God.
It is only through believing that Jesus is God that you can be saved. If you don't believe who Jesus is, you will die in your sins. Believe Jesus is who He says He is and what He has done for you. ~ Jeff M Newman
