In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
When we interact with others we want them to treat us with empathy, kindness, fairness, and compassion. We don't want them to bully us, mock, us or be unkind to us.
Jesus is commanding us to shift the focus off ourselves and put it on others.
Ask yourself, how would you like others to treat you. Then ask yourself how you could do treat others this way.
For example, if you want people to be kind to you, ask yourself how can you be kind to others? Or, how can you be kind and loving to others?
Or, if you want people to be compassionate to you, ask yourself how can you have compassion on others? Now, go and do those things to others. ~ Jeff M Newman

Lesson 10 - 1 John 1:2...that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
Listen now (9 mins) | Welcome back to the Hope Bible School verse-by-verse Bible study of 1 John. Last lesson we learned that Jesus is “the eternal life,” we learned what the Bible says about eternal life, and that we need to proclaim “the eternal life” to others. In this lesson we’re going to learn about the relationship between Jesus and God the Father.
How To Be A Friend Of Jesus
You are My friends if you do what I command you. (John 15:14) In this verse, the word "friend" means a person who has a close relationship with Jesus based on obedience to His teachings. A friend has a deep spiritual connection and fellowship with Jesus.
