What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that? So too, faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead. (James 2:14-17)
This letter was written by James, the half-brother of Jesus. James encourages believers to live out a genuine faith in their daily lives. He teaches that faith without action is dead. True faith is demonstrated through obedience and love that reflect God’s heart. When someone is truly born of God, they will practice righteousness and reveal His character in the way they live (1 John 2:29).
Ask God to open your eyes to the needs around you, and to give you the strength to act. Let your faith come alive through compassion and good works that flow from a heart transformed by Christ. ~ Jeff M Newman
