Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
In context, an angel is speaking to Joseph, Mary’s betrothed husband. He was wrestling with what to do about Mary’s pregnancy. God reveals that the child has been conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is the promised Messiah, fulfilling Old Testament prophecy. This verse explains why He came: to save His people from their sins. Even the name Jesus means “Yahweh is salvation.” God is declaring He will save people from their sins. This is a certain promise, not a possibility.
