I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. (Psalm 119:11)
We all struggle with sin. The key to overcoming sin is hiding God’s Word in your heart. You can do this by memorizing Bible verses. What is the main sin you struggle with? Search online for “Bible verses about [the sin you struggle with].” You will find many verses that specifically address your struggle. Choose the verse that speaks to you the most and keep it short.
Write the verse on 3 by 5 cards and spend time each day memorizing it. The key to memorization is daily practice. Many people say they cannot memorize, but it is not because they are not capable. It is because they lack discipline. Start by memorizing the first part of the verse. Say it out loud five times. The next day say that part from memory five times. Once you can say the first part without looking, begin memorizing the next part. Say the first part then the second part from memory five times.
Continue this process for a week and you will have memorized the verse. Throughout your day try saying the verse from memory and share it with others. If you spend just five minutes a day memorizing, over time you will learn many verses. This discipline will help you hide God’s Word in your heart. ~ Jeff M Newman
