So then, this is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’ (Matthew 6:9-14)
These verses come from the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray. This is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer. It shows us that we are to honor God’s name and align ourselves with His will. We are to depend completely on God and trust Him for our daily needs. We are to seek His forgiveness for our debts and forgive others for their sins against us. We are to ask Him daily to lead us away from temptation and deliver us from the evil one.
Take time to slowly pray through this prayer. As you pray, expand on each part and personalize it. Use this as a guideline. It is not about reciting the prayer repetitively to check off a box but about using it to deeply connect with God.~ Jeff M Newman
