1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Peter the Apostle is writing to believers who are scattered and facing suffering. This includes you. In the middle of hardship, you need to remember who you are. You are chosen by God. You are not overlooked or forgotten. He has set His love on you.
You are also a royal priesthood. This means you are called to serve God and you have direct access to Him. Your life is to be offered to Him as a spiritual sacrifice in the way you live, think, and act.
As a priest, you are called to be holy. This means you are set apart from the world system that is in rebellion against God. You are not to blend in with it. You are to live a life of practicing righteousness, reflecting the character of the One who saved you.
Your mission is to proclaim the virtues of Him. This means declaring the excellencies of God, who He is and what He has done. This includes sharing the gospel, that because of His great love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay the penalty for sin, so that sinners could be redeemed by His grace and brought out of darkness into His marvelous light.
You are called to share this message not only with your words but also through a life that reflects His character. ~ Jeff M Newman
