The Law Merely Brings Awareness of Sin
Romans 3:20

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.
One of the key truths of the gospel is that the law cannot justify a sinner before God. The works of the law refer to attempts to be justified before God through obedience to His commands.
The problem is that humans are sinful. The law acts like a mirror and reveals our sin. It shows how far humanity has fallen short of God’s holiness.
In our recent Bible study we learned that sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). The law exposes the lawlessness of the human heart, but it cannot cure the problem. The only cure is Jesus Christ. His righteousness is given to those who put their faith in Him.
Remember, your good works cannot justify you before God. The law reveals how much you need Christ’s mercy. Put your faith in Christ and rest in His righteousness rather than trusting in religious performance. ~ Jeff M Newman
