Luke 22:19-20 And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.
This takes place on the night before Jesus went to the cross and is known as the Last Supper. This meal was to celebrate the Passover. The Passover is when the Jewish people remembered how God delivered them from slavery in Egypt through the blood of a lamb.
God instructed the Israelites to sacrifice a lamb and put its blood on the top and sides of their doorposts. This protected them from God’s judgment as He passed through the land, sparing those who were covered by the blood.
During the Last Supper, Jesus did something different from the traditional Passover meal. He took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, “This is My body, given for you.” Then He took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.”
The bread represented what would happen to His body. It would be broken. Jesus would willingly give His body on the cross. Remember this when you eat the bread during communion.
The cup represents the blood of Jesus. He willingly poured out His life like an offering. Just as the blood on the doorposts spared the people from judgment, His blood brings forgiveness and covers those who trust in Him. Remember this when you drink from the cup during communion.
Jesus is inviting you to remember His sacrifice. He calls you to receive His grace continually and to live in the reality of the new covenant. He did all of this for you. ~ Jeff M Newman

Observe Jesus’ Commands
Pour new wine into new wineskins. Be open to change and letting go of old ways in order to obey the commandments of Jesus.
Matthew 9:16-17 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (Mark 2:21-22, Luke 5:36-39)
