Whatever a Person Sows, This They Will Also Reap

Galatians 6:7-8

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a person sows, this they will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to their own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

In context, Paul is teaching the Galatians what it means to live as a Christian. He is sharing a key spiritual truth: you will reap what you sow. This means that our choices have consequences. Just as the seeds a farmer sows determine what will eventually grow, the things we continually give ourselves to will shape our lives.

If you continually sow to the flesh by feeding sinful desires and choosing to live according to them, you will reap corruption. However, if you sow to the Spirit by walking in dependence upon the Holy Spirit and following God’s ways, you will reap the fruit that comes from the Spirit and ultimately eternal life.

This does not mean that we earn eternal life through our spiritual activities. Eternal life is a gift of God’s grace that we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. Rather, the way we live reveals the direction of our lives and what we are continually sowing.

Make the decision each day to sow to the Spirit. Spend time reading and studying the Bible, meditating on and memorizing God’s Word, praying, worshipping, fellowshipping with other believers, obeying God’s commands, and sharing His Word with others.

Your daily choices matter. Just as a farmer carefully chooses which seeds to plant, consider what you are continually sowing into your life. Sow to the Spirit today and allow God to produce His fruit in you. ~ Jeff M Newman
