Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus encourages us to store up our treasures in heaven. He teaches that earthly treasures are temporary and can be destroyed or stolen, while treasure in heaven is secure and eternal. He then gives us this important principle: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Every person has time, abilities and resources. When Christ is the greatest priority in your life, you will increasingly use these things to serve Him and invest in His kingdom. Earthly possessions are not inherently wrong, but they should never become our greatest treasure. Everything we have ultimately belongs to God, and we are called to use what He has given us for His glory.
Jesus tells us to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). Ask God to search your heart and reveal anything that has become more important to you than Christ. If you find yourself distracted by temporary things, ask Him to make Jesus your greatest treasure and give you the strength to invest your life in things that have eternal value.
Where you invest your treasure, your heart will follow. Make Christ your greatest treasure and live for His kingdom. ~ Jeff M Newman
