You Are No Longer a Slave, but God’s Own Child
Galatians 4:4-7

But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive our adoption as His children. And because you are His children, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s own child; and since you are His child, you are also an heir through God. (Galatians 4:4-7)
Jesus came to redeem sinners. This redemption brings all who believe in Him into God’s family as His children. Before Christ, we were slaves to sin, but now we are heirs through God. And because God has given us His Spirit, we can know Him intimately. God saves those enslaved to sin and brings them into His family as His beloved children. This is the heart of the gospel. Doesn't God's Word also declare to us that we are bond-servants (Gk. Dulos [slave]) of Jesus and slaves of righteousness (Romans 1:1, 6:17-23)?
Doesn't Scripture tell us that Christians are bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20, 7:22-23, 1 Peter 1:18-19), sons of God (John 1:12), heirs of salvation and eternal life (Romans 8:17; Galatians 4:7; Titus 3:7), as well as slaves to Jesus and of righteousness?
It's all of the above, and more!
The Bible declares that Christians are:
- Saved by God (Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10; Titus 3:5),
- Saints to God (Romans 8:27; Ephesians 1:1) and,
- Slaves of God (Romans 6:16, 22) ... for His glory and our good (Psalm 106:8; Ephesians 1:12).
Those are all reasons to be forever grateful!
